Die Installation „The Paykan Project“ besteht aus einem importierten Paykan, dem gebräuchlichsten Auto im Iran und einer Mixed-Media Installation, bestehend aus Exportpapieren, dokumentierendem Schriftmaterial und einem Videoloop. Im Oktober 2010 kaufte ich in Tehran einen gebrauchten Paykan und überführte ihn in einer zweimonatigen, von Schwierigkeiten geprägten Überlandreise nach Deutschland. Das Paykanmodell geht zurück auf den Britischen Hillman Hunter und ist sehr selten außerhalb des Irans zu finden. In einer US - Ebayauktion von 2009 wurde ein gebrauchter Paykan für den unglaublich hohen Preis von etwa 40000 US-Dollar angeboten. Im Iran bekommt man einen gebrauchten Paykan ab etwa 1000 US-Dollar. Der ikonische Wert, der zu dem Auto addiert wird, sobald es die iranische Grenze passiert, bildet ein wichtiges Element der Arbeit. Weiterhin werden in der Installation Verbindungen zur Tradition des Roadmovies gezogen und so kontrastierende Kontexte miteinander verknüpft.
The Installation “The Paykan Project” consists of an imported Paykan, the most common car in Iran and a mixed-media installation, composed of export papers, documents and a videoloop. In october 2010 I bought a used Paykan in Tehran and transferred it in a difficult two months overland journey from Iran to Germany. The Paykan originates from the British Hillman Hunter and is very rarely found outside of Iran. On a U.S. Ebay auction in 2009, a used Paykan was offered for the incredible price of around $40,000. In Iran one gets a used Paykan from around $1000. The iconic value, that is added to the car as soon as its crossing the iranian bolder, constitutes an important element of the work. Additionally, references to the tradition of the road movie are drawn within the installation, that are furthermore linking contrasting contexts.
