| Die temporäre Arbeit “Der Tag / Das Land” bestand aus einem Archiv israelischer und libanesischer Tageszeitungen und einer täglich stattfindenden Lesung aus diesem Archiv. Den Ausstellungszeitraum von Homo Bellicus,
vom 29.6.-7.7.2007, stellte ich in Beziehung zum gleichen Zeitraum des Jahres zuvor. Keine Woche später, am 13.7.2006, sollte Israels Regierung, nach der Entführung zweier israelischer Soldaten an der Grenze zum Libanon am 12.7.06, mit unerwarteten Angriffen auf Beirut und den Libanon beginnen und den “33-Tage-Krieg” einläuten. Die Arbeit macht jene Nicht-Ankündigung des Krieges kurz vor seinem Beginn deutlich. Die Geschehnisse des Jahres zuvor werden bezeichnet und gleichzeitig ausgespart. Die Lesung der Zeitungen fand täglich um 19.30 Uhr im Kulturzentrum Christiania in Berlin-Wedding statt. Gelesen wurde abwechselnd auf englisch, hebräisch und arabisch.
The temporary work “The Day/The Country” consisted of an archive of
Israeli and Lebanese daily newspapers and a daily reading from that
archive. The exhibition period of “Homo Bellicus”, from 29.6.-7.7.2007,
was being connected to the exact same time period one year before.
One week later, after the kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers on the border
of Lebanon on 12.7.06, Israel’s government began attacking Beirut and
Lebanon with non predictable military aggression. The “33-Day War”
was set off with these sudden events.
The archive is documenting this 'non-announcement' of the war very
shortly before its beginning. The events of the year before are constituted
and left out at the same time. The daily reading of the newspapers in
the exhibition context of “Homo Bellicus” was held alternately in English,
Hebrew and Arabic.
